PRESS RELEASE

Guelph, Ottawa ON, Waterloo QC, Oromocto NB, Truro NS,

January 29, 2015

The Third Annual Candlelight Ceremony is to be held by the organization «HONOUR OUR CANADIAN SOLDIERS», a totally independent non-profit organization separate from the Ministry of National Defence. It will take place Saturday, February 21, 2015 (date dedicated to their memory) in five region of Eastern Canada.

The ceremony is held in memory of those Soldiers who chose to end their days on earth after their return to Canada from Missions they had accomplished.

It was evident after the first Candlelight Ceremony held in February, 2013 that our S.O.S. families across Canada have been waiting a long time for their loved ones to be known and recognized to have served our country as all other Soldiers have been.

The primary purpose of this event is to provide moral support to our S.O.S. families and raise awareness about the respect and pride we have for ALL our Canadian Soldiers. At the same time, we hope to change the «taboo» surrounding suicide in our military, when some loses their battle with “Post-Traumatic Syndrome Disorder” (PTSD).

All the little things that have been done during the past 2 ½  years have enabled us to learn and understand the loneliness and isolation that families of Soldiers of Suicide live after the departure of one of their own, not to mention what the brothers and sisters in arms have experienced following the loss of a comrade.

This event is also an opportunity for us to raise funds to help us in continuing to bring moral support to the SOS families and allow us to install Plaque #2 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Waterloo QC. In that region we lost Pte Frederic Couture in 2007 and the members of the Legion are proud to honour these SOS Soldiers on their premises. The goal is to have a plaque installed in every region of Canada where we have had a Soldier of Suicide loss and where the families allow us to mention the name of their loved ones. These families who are supporting this project want to raise awareness about PTSD, and at the same time we also want to show them they are NEVER ALONE anymore.

All persons wishing to show their support for S.O.S. families are invited to join us for this special memorial event to be held February 21st, 2015 @ 15:00 hrs
